Scene of a fire during the 1977 New York City Blackout by Alex Webb.
This day in 1977 was one of New York City’s most tumultuous. It was an uncomfortably hot summer, the city was in chaos, and as if things couldn’t get worse, everyone lost power for two days. What resulted was mass rioting and mayhem.
If you’re interested in learning more about the summer of ‘77 there’s a great book called Ladies And Gentlemen: The Bronx is Burning.
